What changed

The previous observation established that TAU Stock Carry Vaults were actively borrowing USDC through SteakhouseFi-curated Morpho markets. Morpho has now announced the broader protocol-level availability of stock-backed credit markets for Coinbase Tokenized Stocks on Base, explicitly supporting both variable and fixed rates. This moves tokenized equities from being an input to a carry vault into a directly surfaced collateral class for onchain credit. At the observation time, DefiLlama showed AAPLc at $2.05M onchain AUM and $642,215 of DeFi Active TVL, including $45,097 attributed to Morpho Blue. Portals, however, still labeled its Base Stocks Stock Lending section as “Coming soon,” indicating an aggregation/update lag across public data surfaces.

Why it matters

The Base tokenized-stock yield market is expanding beyond LPs, reward vaults and managed carry strategies into direct stock-backed lending. Lender yield is sourced from interest paid by borrowers, and the emergence of variable and fixed-rate credit curves can support further compositions such as stock-backed liquidity, leverage, carry and maturity-based structured products. No new external incentive was independently confirmed in this observation.

Evidence

  • Morpho public LinkedIn update — Morpho states that stock-backed loans are live, allowing users to lend and borrow against Coinbase tokenized stocks at variable and fixed rates on Base. Markets, parameters and compliance controls are set by curators, and the product is not available to US persons or persons in other restricted jurisdictions. 2026-09-18T22:09:08+09:00
  • CoinMarketCal via TradingView — The September 18, 2026 report describes Morpho's Base stock-backed lending launch and the ability to lend and borrow against Coinbase Tokenized Stocks at variable and fixed rates. 2026-09-18T22:09:08+09:00
  • DefiLlama AAPLc RWA dashboard — AAPLc shows $2.05M of onchain AUM and $642,215 of DeFi Active TVL, with $45,097 attributed to Morpho Blue. 2026-09-18T22:09:08+09:00
  • Base Stocks — Base describes Coinbase Tokenized Stocks as usable for lending, borrowing and collateral across Base DeFi and lists Morpho as a tokenized-stock lending venue. The tokens are described as Coinbase-issued, 1:1 share-backed assets available in eligible non-US jurisdictions. 2026-09-18T22:09:08+09:00
  • Portals Base Stocks aggregate — Portals still displayed its Stock Lending section as 'Coming soon' at the observation time, creating a visible data-surface lag versus Morpho's live announcement. 2026-09-18T22:09:08+09:00

Limitations

Morpho's announcement confirms protocol-level availability, but the individual stock-backed market IDs, supported collateral list, supply and borrow APYs, fixed-rate maturities, utilization and per-market TVL were not consistently identifiable from public surfaces at this observation. The $45,097 shown for Morpho Blue on DefiLlama's AAPLc dashboard is an AAPLc protocol attribution and should not be read as TVL for all markets covered by the launch. Portals still labels Stock Lending as coming soon, showing that public aggregators are updating at different times. Major limitations and risks include curator-specific collateral parameters, oracle and liquidation mechanics, variable rates, smart-contract risk, the timing mismatch between 24/5 equity reference markets and 24/7 Base markets, and Coinbase Tokenized Stock issuer, custody, redemption, eligibility and jurisdictional constraints. No new external incentive was independently confirmed in this observation.
